has no excuse whatsoever to exist

It’s the name for a noodle dish that’s common in China’s Shaanxi province.

When I first saw it on advertisements in Xi’an I figured it was some kind of marketing thing? Actually the noodles have gotten pretty popular because of the character, so it must’ve worked

Beijing-based artist Huang Yan expertly emulates traditional paintings from the Song Dynasty of Chinese landscapes on the human body. While the style and art of painting is a traditional practice, the choice to use the human form as a canvas adds new meaning to the works. The contemporary artist’s series, aptly titled Chinese Landscapes, presents a visual relationship between man and nature through his expert application.

A Year In Trees
A made this animated/print piece to accompany the beautiful op-ed story “A Year in Trees” for the NY Times. I was really excited to try animating something like this. Thanks AD’s Erich Nagler and Aviva Michaelov !
